Renault announced updates for Clio and Captur ranges

JonathanOctober 16, 2013

The efficient Clio and Captur ranges are about to increase their environmental credentials on the back of a new update announced by Renault.

Renault has made the Efficient Dual Clutch (EDC) gearbox option available to the two models alongside the efficient 1.5-litre dCi 90 engine.

As a result, models in the Clio and Captur ranges provide a smooth six-speed transmission, with fully automatic and manual gear selection, while CO2 emissions are among the lowest for any automatic gearboxes in either class.

The Clio emits just 95 g/km and boasts 76.0 mpg combined cycle fuel economy

So, how does the new system provide efficiency gains and reduce fuel consumption. The technology involved in the EDC gearbox uses two clutches, with one in control of first, third and fifth gears and another taking charge of second, fourth, sixth and reverse.

The set-up can instantly adapt to driving styles and demands by selecting the gear that delivers the correct amount of power the instant it is required to do so.

A ‘creep’ function has also been added to provide increased fluidity when sitting in traffic jams, which is a part of daily life for professional drivers and the average motorist. A reassured hill start function prevents the vehicles from rolling back, making them safer to drive.

The changes to the Clio range don’t stop there, as on-board telemetry and performance tracking have been added to the vehicles, with the inclusion of Renaultsport monitor 2.0. The system displays and logs essential performance parameters to help drivers record and hone their skills, particularly when it comes to efficient driving.

Renault is well-known for its environmental credentials as it was recently named the greenest car brand in the world.

Speaking of the achievement Jean-Philippe Hermine, director, Renault Group, Environmental Plan, said: “This position of market leader is proof that the combination of our powertrain strategy – with our range of Energy engines – and our electric vehicle strategy is bearing fruit.”
