The new Polestar 5 is set to be one of the most exciting EVs in 2026 – here’s why

When it comes to premium four-door electric GT cars, the segment is positively booming with choice.

The latest entry into this sector is the Polestar 5; a sleek and stylish Swedish alternative with lots of stand-out features to make it a left-field choice next to its rivals.

Here at UK Carline, we’re excited to see the arrival of the new Polestar 5, but why? Let’s check out some of the key reasons that help to make the new 5 properly interesting.

It has lots of rivals

The 5 gets a classic GT silhouette

The Polestar 5 will be going up against some stiff opposition from the likes of the Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT and Lotus Emeya.

Just like those cars, the 5 will focus on being as aerodynamic as possible with lots of swooping lines, flush door handles and a sweeping rear end.

If you were to compare the 5 to petrol-powered cars of this type, then there are the Porsche Panamera and Bentley Flying Spur.

It comes with an 800-volt architecture

The 5 will bring a number of motor options

Lots of EVs are starting to incorporate 800-volt electrical systems, and the Polestar 5 is no exception.

All variants of the car will feature 800-volt technology, which will allow for ultra-rapid charging speeds of up to 350kW from a DC rapid-charger, enabling a 10 to 80 per cent top-up in 22 minutes.

This makes the car a lot easier to live with if you cover lots of miles and need to charge your car regularly while you’re on the move.

Prices will be competitive with two trim levels

The interior gets lots of eco-friendly materials

When the Polestar 5 hits the showrooms, customers will be able to choose from two models.

The entry-level ‘Dual Motor’ car comes in at £89,500 and includes equipment such as Brembo brake discs, a 10-speaker 300-watt sound system, a glass panoramic roof and 20-inch alloy wheels.

The flagship ‘Performance’ car is priced from £104,900 and adds even more kit, such as 21-inch wheels, gloss black mirror caps, a 21-speaker Bowers and Wilkins premium audio system, Swedish Gold brake calipers and a Microsuede headlining.

When the Polestar 5 arrives here at UK Carline, we’ll be able to offer you the very best deals to get you behind the wheel for a price that works for you.

It’s been designed to be driver-focused

The 5 arrives to meet lots of rivals

To make sure the 5 is as sporty as it can be, the whole body shell of the car is made from aluminium.

Having an all-aluminium body structure makes the car lighter and more rigid. This helps improve the car’s cornering abilities, making it faster and more efficient.

If you go for the top-spec ‘Performance’ model, it also benefits from Polestar’s ‘MagneRide’ adjustable dampers. This contains magnetised fluid in the car’s shock absorbers, which can instantly change its viscosity depending on which road surface you’re driving on.

This makes the ride comfort a lot more composed and the driver has the choice of three different settings, where the dampers can be adjusted to suit the road conditions.

It doesn’t feature a rear window

There’s no rear window on the 5, just like the 4

Just like the smaller Polestar 4, the 5 adopts the same design by having no rear window.

Why? It’s all to do with increasing interior space, while retaining a sleek and stylish exterior design.

Due to the lack of a rear screen, this means that the panoramic glass roof can be longer without compromising on headroom, while the car’s rear proportions can still be low and aerodynamic.

As standard, all 5s come with a digital rear view mirror to help aid with reverse parking manoeuvrability.
