More people are seeing the benefits of driving a brand new car, rather than sticking with their old banger, according to new figures. As well as lower road tax, car insurance and MOTs that an individual can benefit from, for professional drivers wanting a number of vehicles for a fleet, there are various other advantages.<\/p>\n
However, it appears that this isn't just a trend that us in the UK are experiencing, as figures suggest it is a phenomenon that is making its way across the continent. <\/p>\n
In February 2014, demand for new cars in the EU increased for the sixth consecutive month, with a rise of eight per cent in registrations. This was despite actual figures of 861,058 vehicles sold, marking the second lowest result to date for a month of February since the European Automobile Manufacturer's Association\u200b (ACEA) began the research in 2003 to include the entire EU market.<\/p>\n
At the start of 2014, new passenger car registrations increased by 6.6 per cent in between January and February, totalling more than 1.7 million units sold.<\/p>\n
This increase in demand was felt across the EU with only France experiencing a decrease in interest for new cars. The French market fell by 1.4 per cent, while all other major nations contributed positively to the overall expansion of the EU.<\/p>\n
Growth in the UK was a encouraging three per cent, with Germany experiencing a 4.3 per cent boost, Italy 8.6 per cent and Spain 17.8 per cent during this period.<\/p>\n
Across the first two months of 2014, most major markets also saw growth in demand for new cars, with France being the only key country to see a drop. Demand for new passenger cars increased by 5.7 per cent in Germany, six per cent in Italy, 6.1 per cent in the UK and 13.1 per cent in Spain. <\/p>\n
