Vauxhall, one of the country\u2019s biggest car manufacturers, has outlined plans to create a total of 550 new jobs in factories in Luton an Ellesmere Port.<\/p>\n
The company announced that the Vauxhall plant in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, will be bolstered by 300 new employees in anticipation of production of the next generation Astra. While their Luton van facility in Bedfordshire will add 250 additional jobs to help build the newly launched Vivaro van. The move is said to be the \u201cfirst significant hire programme for a decade\u201d according to Vauxhall.<\/p>\n
The news comes only two years after a \u00a3125 million contract was won by Ellesmere Port to build the new Astra. The new roles in both plants are to be put in place beginning next year.<\/p>\n
Chairman and Managing Director for Vauxhall, Tim Tozer, said: \u201cThis is great news for Vauxhall and for British manufacturing.<\/p>\n
\u201cBoth of our UK manufacturing plants have won long contracts with all-new products and as the business strengthens, we now need to take on more people to build these exciting new Vauxhalls.\u201d<\/p>\n
The news will be well received by workers in Ellesmere Port, as it was only a few months ago that the outgoing chairman of Vauxhall Motors revealed that the plant was close to closing in 2012.<\/p>\n
