Created by Business in the Community, an organisation launched to encourage business\u2019 community outreach, Responsible Business Week raises awareness and involvement in responsible business practices.<\/p>\n<p>Vauxhall\u2019s visit comes as St Matthews Primary School wraps up its scheme called \u2018Vans R Us\u2019. The programme was created to promote students\u2019 awareness about the manufacturing and marketing processes involved in launching a new vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the programme, students have designed their own vans and completed the process from start to finish &#8211; deciding on a target demographic, perfecting a brand concept, developing models and pitching ideas to their teachers and Vauxhall staff members. Over the course of the scheme, training sessions were held at the Vauxhall Luton plant, led by undergraduate students. Since the scheme\u2019s launch in 2009, more than 1,000 students have taken part. It has become highly popular among both Vauxhall\u2019s undergraduate team leaders and primary school students.<\/p>\n<p>Aimee Genders, \u2018Vans R Us\u2019 project leader and HR assistant at Vauxhall\u2019s Luton plant, said: \u201cWe are thrilled to be able to teach pupils about the automotive industry and it was great to see the engagement and enthusiasm from the pupils about the manufacturing industry\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Vauxhall\u2019s participation in Responsible Business week has not gone unnoticed. Stephen Howard, chief executive of Business in the Community, said: \u201cWe are delighted that Vauxhall is supporting the week and even more importantly, we hope it will inspire many more businesses to put responsible behaviour at the heart of how they do business\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Employing approximately 35,000, Vauxhall has been a major player in the British automotive industry since 1903. Vauxhall\u2019s Luton plant produced an award-winning van that has been awarded the title of \u2018Best Medium Van\u2019 by Van Fleet Awards seven times so far.<\/p>\n<p>The manufacturer produces a broad range of quality SUVs as well.
