The all-new Mazda6 has been showing off its racing pedigree recently, with some of the world\u2019s most beloved TV stars and sports personalities behind the wheel.<\/p>\n

A total of 21 well-known faces turned out to take part in the inaugural Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge last weekend, which involved three supporting races to the 2013 Formula One Australian Grand Prix at the prestigious Albert Park race track.<\/p>\n

Celebrities taking part in this spectacular event ranged from six-time Olympic champion Sir Chris Hoy to Law & Order actor Jonathan LaPaglia and Australia\u2019s own Holly Candy (nee Valance), former star of Neighbours and the singer of the chart-topping single Kiss Kiss.<\/p>\n

However, it was former Australian Test cricketer Brad Hodge who ended up stealing the show at the first-ever Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge, when he passed the finish line in first position in his saloon in all three races.<\/p>\n

All 21 celebrities were tasked to race a standard edition of the Mazda6 around the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

The only difference from the event\u2019s saloons to the roadworthy models was the fact that the racecars were fitted with safety equipment. These features included a full roll-cage, Sparco race seat with six-point safety harness, external battery \u2018kill\u2019 switches and race compound brake pads, in order to comply with FIA regulations.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the challenge allowed Mazda to debut its clean diesel technology, which came in the form of standard 2.2-litre SKYACTIV-D engine capable of producing 175ps and up to 420Nm of torque.<\/p>\n

At the conclusion of the inaugural event, Sir Chris commented: \u201cI am delighted with today\u2019s performance; it was the most fun I have had in the car ever.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter Saturday\u2019s charge through the field, passing 15 cars, I even had hopes of maybe winning the final, but Brad Hodge has been so consistent and he was ultimately out of reach and I had to settle for the runner-up spot.\u201d<\/p>\n
