Jaguar Land Rover has showcased how it is hoping to make its vehicles more environmentally friendly at this year’s RAC Future Car Challenge.<\/p>\n

The British vehicle manufacturer entered three of its Jaguar XJ_e PHEV engineering research cars into the third annual occurrence of the event, which tasked competitors to drive from Brighton to London using the least amount of fuel possible.<\/p>\n

Hosted last Saturday (November 3rd), the vehicles were able to use just 1.2 litres of petrol and 11kWh of electricity over the 63-mile course. As a result, the equivalent fuel consumption of the three cars totalled approximately 112 miles per gallon.<\/p>\n

Such a phenomenal drive not only enabled the Jaguar XJ_e PHEV vehicles to achieve a best-in-class rating, but also earned Jaguar Land Rover the ‘Most Energy Efficient Luxury Car Prototype’ and ‘Technical Panel’s Award of Merit’ accolades.<\/p>\n

Pete Richings, director of hybrids and electrification at Jaguar Land Rover, commented: “The three experimental XJ_e vehicles were brand new so this event was their first drive in real-world conditions.<\/p>\n

“They performed faultlessly and delivered performance that exceeded our expectations, a tribute to our engineering team who prepared them.”<\/p>\n

In its pursuit of achieving greener motoring, engineers at Jaguar Land Rover fitted a two-litre turbocharged engine under the bonnet of the experimental XJ_e cars. This works with a 69kW electric motor and a 12.3kWh lithium-ion battery to achieve a range of around 25 miles when in all-electric mode.<\/p>\n

Contact hire allows motorists to get an idea of how comfortable a Jaguar XJ_e would be to drive. The Jaguar XJ 2.7 TDVi Executive four-door diesel saloon automatic<\/a> is available for just \u00a3662.92 per month.<\/p>\n

Such a deal grants drivers a car that can reach 62mph from rest in a mere 7.8 seconds, while boasting fuel economy of 35.7mpg and letting off just 209 CO2\/km in emissions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
