The new Nissan Micra is here, reviving a nameplate which is well-known here in the UK. But while the previous Micra was a petrol-powered city car, this modern version has been reinvented as an electric vehicle with a bold new look and an innovative interior.\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

But what are the ins and outs of this sixth-generation car and why should you be considering it? Here at UK CarLine, we\u2019ve delved into the details to find out everything you need to know about the new Nissan <\/a>Micra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Underpinnings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you look at the general shape and size of the new Nissan Micra it might become clear what it uses as a basis – the new Renault 5<\/a>. Thanks to a sharing of technology between the French and Japanese firms, both the Micra and 5 share a number of components, with the proportions, batteries and on-board technology being nearly identical on both cars. In fact, both cars will roll off the same production line at the Ampere ElectriCity plant in Douai, France.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It plays a big part in Nissan\u2019s electrification strategy, which looks to introduce four new electric<\/a> models by 2027.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Powertrain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As mentioned, the Micra will be strictly electric-only – there are no plans for petrol or hybrid models at this point. But just the same as the Renault 5<\/a>, the Micra will be available with a series of battery sizes to cater for a variety of buyers. A 40kWh battery will return a range of up to 192 miles, while a larger 52kWh unit should return up to 253 miles from a full charge.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are slightly different charging speeds depending on which battery you go for, too. The smaller battery gets a top-whack charging speed of 80kWh, while the larger one can accept a slightly faster rate of charge at 100kW. Either way, a 15 to 80 per cent charge should take around 30 minutes when you\u2019re hooked up to a rapid charger. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Design-wise, the new Micra offers a fresh take on the usual Nissan styling. It\u2019s quite different to the retro-inspired 5, too, though from certain angles – such as the rear three-quarter – you can see similar elements. That said, Nissan has included some features that are unique to the Micra, including a \u2018welcome wink\u2019 which flashes and strobes the headlights when the car is unlocked. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From launch, there will be a choice of 14 exterior colours, too, ranging from Pure White to Rebel Red. It\u2019s likely that there will be plenty of wheel options, too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Technology is a big part of any modern electric vehicle and the Nissan Micra is no different. Inside, there\u2019s a pair of 10.1-inch displays – one in the middle of the dashboard and a second one ahead of the driver – which contribute to a rather futuristic-feeling cabin. There\u2019s also a multifunction steering wheel which will help to give quick access to certain functions when you\u2019re on the move. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the Nissan Micra gets vehicle-to-load technology. This feature allows users to power domestic devices via the car\u2019s onboard energy supply. Accessed via an adapter for the main charging port, it can prove handy when camping or venturing outdoors where you don\u2019t have access to a mains supply of power. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When can I get one?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Nissan has yet to confirm full pricing or specifications for the Micra, but it\u2019s expected to go on sale by the end of 2025 with deliveries commencing at the start of 2026.
