Volkswagen\u2019s new Tayron <\/a>SUV is one of the best-in-class when it comes to practicality, efficiency and running costs.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

So, if you\u2019re in the market for one of these great all-round family workhorses, what else do you need to know?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve compiled a list of the most important things you need to know about the Volkswagen Tayron.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What engines are available?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Tayron is available with a variety of engine choices <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The Tayron is available with a plethora of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains to suit a wide range of buyers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first is a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology badged \u2018eTSi\u2019 and produces a total of 148bhp and can return a claimed 46.5mpg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Higher-specced trim levels will come with the option of a punchier 2.0-litre turbocharged unit, which benefits from Volkswagen\u2019s<\/a> 4Motion four-wheel drive system. Also, there is a choice of two different power outputs of 201bhp and 268bhp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is also one diesel powertrain available, which is a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine that produces 148bhp and can return a claimed 49.3mpg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, if you need even lower running costs, then there\u2019s the option of two different plug-in hybrid variants, which are badged \u2018eHybrid\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both are fitted with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to an electric motor and 19.7kWh battery. But, there is the option of 201bhp and 268bhp power outputs, with both models returning a claimed electric driving range of up to 71 miles. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How many trim levels are there?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Volkswagen offers the Tayron with plenty of different trim levels, and all models are very well equipped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The entry-level \u2018Life\u2019 starts at \u00a340,130 and includes a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, 18-inch alloy wheels and LED headlights. Next up is the \u2018Match\u2019, which is priced from \u00a345,315 and adds a tilt and sliding glass panoramic sunroof, keyless entry and silver roof rails. The \u2018Elegance’ comes in at \u00a342,700 and boasts 19-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats and interior ambient lighting. Move up to the \u00a343,105 \u2018R-Line\u2019 and it features 20-inch alloy wheels, sports seats and bespoke R-Line exterior and interior styling. Meanwhile, the flagship \u2018R-Line\u2019 Edition is priced at \u00a347,490 and adds a powered tailgate and electric memory front seats. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s it like to drive?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Behind the wheel, the Tayron doesn\u2019t offers the kind of easy-going driving style which makes it ideal for everyday adventures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The power from the plug-in hybrid and petrol engines is more than enough on a day-to-day basis, while the ride is smooth and composed over bumps and the steering is nicely weighted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visibility all-round is excellent, and the car\u2019s refinement levels are impressive, with very little intrusion of wind, tyre and road noise entering the cabin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The only negatives to report are the car\u2019s numb steering feel and large proportions make it feel rather big and cumbersome out on a twisty road, with other key rivals feeling more dynamic to drive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who is its target audience?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As it\u2019s a large SUV, the main target audience will be growing families who need a vehicle that is dependable, durable and will be able to carry lots of people in decent comfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
