BYD has already become one of the best-known brands in a new breed of China-based manufacturers, offering cars like its clever Atto 3 and sleek Seal. You\u2019ll find many BYD models available here at UK CarLine<\/a>, too.\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

BYD<\/a> looks set to expand into the pick-up market soon, too, with its Ford Ranger-rivalling Shark. Details are still relatively scarce, but we\u2019ve already got some key details about the Shark 6 that you need to know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is the BYD Shark?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Shark will act as BYD\u2019s very first entry into the world of pick-up trucks. It\u2019s a double-cab pick-up – meaning that there\u2019s a cabin with space for five people in the middle and a large truck bed out back – meaning that it offers both load-carrying ability and the option of carrying a larger number of people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While BYD<\/a> has quickly become known for its electric vehicles, it\u2019s expected that the Shark will be offered first and foremost as a plug-in hybrid. It\u2019s expected that the Shark will manage up to 62 miles of electric-only power, too. It\u2019ll come with a 3,500kg towing ability and a payload of over one tonne, too.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When will it come to the UK?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

BYD hasn\u2019t yet confirmed an exact date for the new Shark, but in a recent interview with us BYD\u2019s UK sales and marketing director Steve Beattie said: \u201cThe BYD Shark will be coming to the UK. The official dates are not there, but it will arrive in the UK at some time in 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is it already on sale elsewhere?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s right. The BYD Shark might be new to the UK, but it is already on-sale in other parts of the world. In fact, it has already arrived in many markets outside of BYD\u2019s native China, including Australia, South Africa and South America. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s likely that BYD <\/a>has seen its growing presence in the UK over recent years and will use the Shark as a way to increase this even further.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What kind of features will it have?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

All cars will get a high level of standard equipment <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

As we\u2019ve come to expect from BYD\u2019s cars, it\u2019s likely that the Shark will come with a high level of standard equipment. We\u2019ve already seen it equipped with a huge landscape-oriented touchscreen in other markets, with a large driver\u2019s display being positioned behind the steering wheel, too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While official specifications and trim levels have yet to be confirmed, we\u2019re sure that the Shark will come with all of the features you need as standard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What models does it rival?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The pick-up market has contracted in recent years, but there are still some key rivals for the Shark to go up against. The key one is Ford\u2019s Ranger<\/a>, which is also available with a plug-in hybrid setup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You could also look at the Volkswagen Amarok<\/a>, as well as the fully electric Maxus<\/a> eTerron 9.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
