Both the Jaecoo 5<\/a> and Omoda 5<\/a> are making waves in the current UK car market. Each car sits on the more compact end of the SUV spectrum and, as with many of the latest Chinese-made cars, comes equipped with a high level of technology and standard equipment.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With both the Jaecoo 5 and Omoda 5<\/a>, you\u2019ve got a series of engine configurations to choose from. On the Jaecoo, there\u2019s a standard 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine which, in all models, is linked to an automatic gearbox. There\u2019s also an electric<\/a> \u2018E5\u2019 model which uses a 204bhp electric motor and a 61kWh battery for a total claimed range of 248 miles.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Switch to the Omoda 5 and how do things change? It\u2019s a car which is available with Omoda\u2019s clever Super Hybrid<\/a> System – or SHS – which combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a compact electric motor and battery. Efficiency is a big measure for this engine and it should manage up to 53mpg combined. There\u2019s also an electric model – the E5 – which has a 61kWh battery and a claimed range of up to 267 miles, slightly bettering the range you\u2019ll get from the electric Jaecoo E5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The interiors of both cars incorporate cutting-edge tech to make everyday driving a little easier. The Omoda<\/a> features twin 12.5-inch high-definition displays which include all key media functions, as well as smartphone integration systems, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The steering wheel is also kitted out with a range of buttons to access key functions when you\u2019re on the move.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Switch to the Jaecoo<\/a> and how do things change? Well, you now get a 13.2-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while all versions also benefit from a high-quality six-speaker Sony audio system.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Space is so important in this area of the car market, so how do the Jaecoo 5<\/a> and Omoda 5 stack up? Well, thanks to the boxy designs of both cars, you get a decent amount of space inside, with the Jaecoo getting a handy central storage area ahead of the main screen where you can store loose items. In fact, Jaecoo says that there are 35 individual storage spaces dotted throughout the cabin. In terms of boot space, the Jaecoo 5 offers 480 litres of room, which rises to 1,180 litres with the rear seats folded flat.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How is spaciousness in the Omoda<\/a>, though? In total, the 5 measures at 4,373mm, contrasting the Jaecoo 5\u2019s 4,380mm, making the two quite similar in size. When it comes to boot space, the Omoda 5\u2019s 380-litre boot is quite a bit smaller than the one in the Jaecoo, though you can still expand that area to 1,075 litres by folding down the rear seats.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Things have been kept simple with the specifications of both of these cars. Take the Jaecoo 5, for instance. It\u2019s available in two trim levels – Pure and Luxury – though you\u2019re getting lots of standard equipment regardless of which one you choose. Pure cars get 18-inch alloy wheels, a 13.2-inch infotainment system and a 540-degree parking camera. Luxury then adds LED headlights and a powered boot, as well as electrically adjustable driver and passenger seats, and a panoramic sunroof. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Omoda 5, meanwhile, is available in Knight and Noble specifications. First up, Knight-grade cars get a dual 12.3-inch infotainment screen setup and high-speed wireless smartphone charging. There\u2019s a rear-view camera with dynamic guidelines to help when positioning the car, too. Step up to Noble, and you\u2019ll get 19-inch black alloy wheels, a 360-degree parking camera and a power sunroof, as well as a powered tailgate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
