The Jaecoo 7 <\/a>has been experiencing a huge wave of success here in the UK and here at UK Carline<\/a>, it\u2019s easily one of our favourite new models that we\u2019ve been able to offer.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, Jaecoo has added a new hybrid engine to the mix, expanding the range of options available with the 7. There\u2019s also a luxurious new Black Luxury Edition trim, but how does this change the 7\u2019s appeal? Let\u2019s take a look. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

New hybrid engine – what is it?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The hybrid uses a 1.5-litre petrol<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The new engine being brought to the Jaecoo 7<\/a> is a \u2018regular\u2019 hybrid one. That means it doesn\u2019t require a plug, instead drawing power from the engine and regenerative braking system to allow for a small amount of electric driving. Called the SHS-H system, it uses a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine linked to a small electric motor and battery.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jaecoo<\/a> says that this version offers a \u2018flexible alternative to hybrid ownership\u2019 and, it also says, can bring up to 53mpg, making it an ideal option for drivers who can\u2019t charge up at home but who still want an electrified car. It\u2019s available in Pure and Deluxe grades, bringing features such as tweed cloth upholstery and dual-zone climate control on the former, or an eight-speaker sound system and 14.8-inch infotainment system on the latter.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What existing engine options are there?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t worry, Jaecoo<\/a> is still offering the 7 with a great range of other engines if the standard hybrid doesn\u2019t work for you. There\u2019s the regular petrol, but the most popular is the plug-in hybrid model, badged SHS. It also uses a 1.5-litre petrol engine like the regular hybrid, but gets a larger battery and electric motor.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The end result is a car that has a claimed electric-only range of up to 56 miles and a claimed efficiency of up to 403mpg if you\u2019re able to run on battery-only power for most of the time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s the Black Luxury Edition?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Also making an entrance is the new Black Luxury Edition. Coming alongside standard trim levels, the Black Luxury Edition brings – you guessed it – a range of black-coloured elements which help to give the 7 an understated, stealthy look on the road. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It gets the full blacked-out treatment, with a black front grille, logo and C-pillar badge, as well as black mirrors, roof and wheels. Even the headliner is finished in deep black.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can I still get regular trim levels?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Of course! Black Luxury Edition is coming alongside the existing trim levels, so if that stealthy look isn\u2019t for you, then there\u2019s still plenty of choice. On standard petrol models, there are Deluxe and Luxury grades, bringing features such as a 13.2-inch infotainment screen and six-speaker sound system on the former, and a 14.8-inch touchscreen and Sony sound system on the latter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plug-in hybrid can be specified in either Deluxe or Luxury, too. Deluxe brings a 13.2-inch infotainment screen and 10.25-inch driver\u2019s display alongside a 540-degree parking camera and keyless entry. Move up to Luxury and you\u2019ll get a larger 14.8-inch infotainment screen, ventilated front seats and even a heated steering wheel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What other options are there?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

While the Jaecoo 7<\/a> is definitely proving popular, there are other options available at UK Carline<\/a> if you\u2019re after something else. You could look in the direction of the Kia Sportage<\/a>, for instance, or even the Range Rover Evoque<\/a> – a car which many people believe sparked the Jaecoo 7\u2019s design.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
