Skoda<\/a> is the latest brand to introduce a brand new electric car. At a glitzy reveal, it has showcased its new Epiq, a compact electric SUV that Skoda<\/a> believes will be a big hit with family buyers looking to make the switch to an EV.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here at UK Carline, we\u2019ve always been big fans of the Skoda Enyaq<\/a> and Elroq<\/a>, but we\u2019ve got all of the information about the new Epiq and what it has in store for you.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s it based on?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Skoda Epiq may look a little familiar and that\u2019s because, underneath, it shares a platform with several of the latest Volkswagen Group cars. Its MEB+ platform is one which is already being used on the CUPRA Raval, alongside cars like the Volkswagen ID.Cross and ID.Polo.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This clever platform is an extension on the successful MEB setup that we\u2019ve seen used for cars like the Volkswagen ID.3<\/a>, CUPRA Born<\/a> and even Skoda\u2019s own Enyaq<\/a> and Elroq<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What about battery and range?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Though the Epiq may be compact in size, it\u2019s aiming to deliver big-car range. From launch, there will be two battery sizes on offer – 37kWh and 52kWh – which will deliver respective ranges of 190 and 272 miles. The good news is that thanks to rapid charging, you should be able to take either battery from 10 to 80 per cent in around 25 minutes. The larger-battery car can also accommodate bi-directional charging, meaning that, in the future, you\u2019ll be able to use it to \u2018store\u2019 energy which can later be fed back into the grid, or used to power a home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The smaller-battery Epiq is linked to a 132bhp electric motor, while the larger battery car uses a more powerful 208bhp motor. Both are front-wheel-drive and, for now, there are no all-wheel-drive models – though we\u2019re sure that these will be added at a later date. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is there much technology on board?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As we\u2019ve come to expect from Skoda, equipment levels will be very good with the Epiq. Standard SE L trims will get 18-inch alloy wheels, a 13-inch infotainment system and wireless smartphone connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A five-inch digital cockpit, climate control and adaptive cruise control will also be featured as standard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Head up to Edition-grade cars and you\u2019ll add satellite navigation, heated front seats and steering wheel and two-zone climate control. Wireless smartphone charging will help to keep devices topped up without the need for a cable, while a mobile digital key service means you\u2019ll be able to unlock your Epiq using just your smartphone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What cars will it rival?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Of course, some of the key rivals for the Epiq come from inside the Volkswagen Group itself. You\u2019d be looking at the Cupra Raval, or even the upcoming ID.Cross from Volkswagen. However, if you were to look outside the Volkswagen Group, then options like the Kia EV2 and Hyundai Inster also come into play. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What about price?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve already got a good insight into the price of the Skoda Epiq. Things will kick off at a competitive \u00a324,950, which means that it matches the petrol-powered Skoda Kamiq in terms of price. The higher-spec Edition will come in at \u00a327,700, but, of course, this model brings a lot more equipment for the money. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The larger-battery models will command a \u00a32,750 premium over smaller-battery cars, too. At launch, a special \u2018First Edition\u2019 car will also be launched, but prices for this model are yet to be confirmed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
