Some of the fleet of BMWs that will be used for the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games have been delivered.<\/p>\n

As official automotive partner to the contest, BMW Group has provided the first 40 models before the event commences this summer under a car leasing<\/a> deal.<\/p>\n

The cars are all Games-ready and liveried in order to provide the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) with transportation.<\/p>\n

In addition to electric, hybrid and diesel four-wheel models, BMW has also supplied motorcycles and bikes to keep organisers mobile.<\/p>\n

As a result, other organisations may wish to follow LOCOG’s lead and invest in contract car leasing<\/a> schemes to ensure they can handle a range of operational demands.<\/p>\n

“We were selected as a partner based on our ability to provide such a diverse fleet that could achieve the challenging emissions threshold as set by LOCOG,” explained BMW UK managing director Tim Abbott.<\/p>\n

He added the firm is “extremely proud” that its vehicles are being used for the London 2012 Games and “excited about seeing them in full service this summer”.<\/p>\n

BMW’s EfficientDynamics technology is being employed by Olympic organisers as part of efforts to reach a 120 g\/km target for carbon dioxide emissions.<\/p>\n

A total of 4,000 cars are being supplied by BMW to LOCOG as part of the agreement and they will be used for the transportations of national Olympic committee representatives, media parties, LOCOG employees, sponsors and international Olympic officials, among others.<\/p>\n

The BMW 1 Series models were recently given a highly commended mention at the 2012 Fleet News Awards in London, just behind the Ford Focus in the category.<\/p>\n

Other cars from the marque to be selected for praise included the X5 (shortlisted for best all-round 4×4, while the BMW 3 Series was chosen for a highly commended prize in the best premium car category, the BMW 5 Series won best boardroom car and the company as a whole was on the shortlist for top green fleet manufacturer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
