Car leasing<\/a> customers and other drivers have been warned of the dangers associated with modern entertainment technology.<\/p>\n

The Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) said that pedestrians using iPods and mobile phones have the potential to lose attention and have bad decision making skills.<\/p>\n

“Drivers assume the pedestrian has seen them and if they do anything unpredictable then a driver will not be ready to react,” said Caroline Holmes, spokeswoman for IAM.<\/p>\n

She explained that the issue will be impossible to enforce, so the onus is on drivers to increase and maintain their awareness over the next couple of years to help reduce the number of accidents.<\/p>\n

However, she said that in the future, cars and phones may be able to send electronic signals to each other to make collisions less likely.<\/p>\n

She was speaking after a report from the University of Maryland found the amount of road accidents involving headphones has tripled since 2004.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
