Those companies who want to become more environmental friendly and lower their carbon footprint could opt for vehicles produced by Volkswagen.<\/p>\n

The German automotive giant has announced that it will be making improvements to the way it runs its production facilities in the future to ensure they are as sustainable as they can be.<\/p>\n

Fleet managers and individuals may find the process of switching their cars and vans much easier if the adopt vehicle hiring practices.<\/p>\n

The Think Blue Factory initiative is part of the company’s plans to reduce its environmental damage by 25 per cent by the end of 2018.<\/p>\n

Energy consumption, waste volumes, air-borne emissions, water consumption and carbon dioxide emissions will be the major targets for the scheme.<\/p>\n

“Through the growing efficiency and productivity of our plants, the Volkswagen brand is already making a key contribution to the achievements of group strategic targets for 2018,” said Hubert Waltl, member of the board of management of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand with responsibility for production and logistics.<\/p>\n

Fellow board member professor Werner Neubauer said these objectives would give Volkswagen and its customers a clear competitive advantage.<\/p>\n

“Our ambitious targets for sustainable vehicle production have now been defined in a way which is clear and comprehensible for our customers,” he added.<\/p>\n

This comes after a Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee was the first car production facility in the world to receive platinum Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification.<\/p>\n

The award signifies that the factory meets the most demanding of sustainability measures.<\/p>\n

Car leasing<\/a> customers could further improve their green credentials by hiring the company’s Golf BlueMotion model.<\/p>\n

The car was recently named the Green Vehicle of the Year at the 2011 ACFO Fleet Awards and offers drivers a fuel consumption of 74.3 mpg and carbon dioxide emissions of 99 g\/km.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
