Lease car drivers should check their vehicles’ headrests and adjust them where needed to improve protection.<\/p>\n
Simon Elstow, head of training at the Institute of Advanced Motorists Drive & Survive, pointed out headrests should be in line with the top and close to the back of the head.<\/p>\n
Head restraints should not impair vision to the rear or make driving uncomfortable.<\/p>\n
Headrests play a key role in protecting lease car drivers from injuries such as whiplash if they are hit from behind.<\/p>\n
“Not all head restraints are adjustable, but where they are, make sure they are placed high and close enough to stop your head going backwards if you crash,” commented Mr Elstow.<\/p>\n
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) recently pointed out nearly 1,200 claims are made for whiplash every day.<\/p>\n
Tailgating is the main cause of accidents resulting in whiplash and the ABI warned lease car drivers and other motorists to keep a safe braking distance from other vehicles.<\/p>\n
