BYD’s Shark is coming to the UK, but what will it offer?

Jack Evans26th September 2025

BYD has already become one of the best-known brands in a new breed of China-based manufacturers, offering cars like its clever Atto 3 and sleek Seal. You’ll find many BYD models available here at UK CarLine, too.

BYD looks set to expand into the pick-up market soon, too, with its Ford Ranger-rivalling Shark. Details are still relatively scarce, but we’ve already got some key details about the Shark 6 that you need to know.

What is the BYD Shark?

BYD Shark
Vehicle-to-load will allow you to power external devices with the truck’s on-board power

The Shark will act as BYD’s very first entry into the world of pick-up trucks. It’s a double-cab pick-up – meaning that there’s a cabin with space for five people in the middle and a large truck bed out back – meaning that it offers both load-carrying ability and the option of carrying a larger number of people.

While BYD has quickly become known for its electric vehicles, it’s expected that the Shark will be offered first and foremost as a plug-in hybrid. It’s expected that the Shark will manage up to 62 miles of electric-only power, too. It’ll come with a 3,500kg towing ability and a payload of over one tonne, too.

When will it come to the UK?

BYD hasn’t yet confirmed an exact date for the new Shark, but in a recent interview with us BYD’s UK sales and marketing director Steve Beattie said: “The BYD Shark will be coming to the UK. The official dates are not there, but it will arrive in the UK at some time in 2026.”

Is it already on sale elsewhere?

That’s right. The BYD Shark might be new to the UK, but it is already on-sale in other parts of the world. In fact, it has already arrived in many markets outside of BYD’s native China, including Australia, South Africa and South America.

It’s likely that BYD has seen its growing presence in the UK over recent years and will use the Shark as a way to increase this even further.

What kind of features will it have?

All cars will get a high level of standard equipment

As we’ve come to expect from BYD’s cars, it’s likely that the Shark will come with a high level of standard equipment. We’ve already seen it equipped with a huge landscape-oriented touchscreen in other markets, with a large driver’s display being positioned behind the steering wheel, too.

While official specifications and trim levels have yet to be confirmed, we’re sure that the Shark will come with all of the features you need as standard.

What models does it rival?

The pick-up market has contracted in recent years, but there are still some key rivals for the Shark to go up against. The key one is Ford’s Ranger, which is also available with a plug-in hybrid setup.

You could also look at the Volkswagen Amarok, as well as the fully electric Maxus eTerron 9.

Here at UK CarLine, we’ve got all of the very latest BYD models and while the Shark isn’t here yet, we’ll inform you as soon as we’re aware of its arrival in the UK.
