Everything you need to know about the Jaecoo J7

Jack Evans30th May 2025

Jaecoo is one of the latest car manufacturers to arrive in the UK from China.

It’s part of the Chinese car giant, Chery, and is the sister company to another new firm, Omoda.

The J7 is the firm’s first and only offering here in Britain, with its bold styling, petrol and hybrid powertrains and competitive pricing.

If you’re thinking of buying one of these Chinese SUVs, here are some facts that you need to know before you make that purchase.

It sits in the medium SUV class

The J7 competes in one of the most fiercely competitive sectors in the car market, the medium SUV category.

It rivals cars such as the Kia Sportage and Volkswagen Tiguan, which means that this J7 has big boots to fill if it wants to succeed in this segment.

It’s available with multiple powertrains

A column shifter is found in PHEV models

Unlike other Chinese cars new to the market, the Jaecoo J7 is available with a choice of petrol or plug-in hybrid power.

The regular model comes fitted with a 1.6-litre turbocharged unit that generates 145bhp and 275Nm of torque. In terms of acceleration, the car can go from 0-60mph in 10.1 seconds and will reach a top speed of 112 mph.

You can also get the added benefit of all-wheel-drive with the standard petrol car too, helping boost its appeal for those who want the added traction in poorer weather conditions.

If you want to go down the electrified route, Jaecoo offers the J7 with a plug-in hybrid variant as well. Powering the car is a smaller 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to an electric motor and 18.3kWh battery pack. Jaecoo claims the car can drive up to 56 miles on electric power and that its CO2 emissions are as low as 23g/km.

The PHEV’s acceleration stands at 0-60mph in 8.3 seconds and the car will go onto a top speed of 108mph.

It comes with lots of equipment as standard

The main display binnacle contains lots of information

A key selling-point with the J7 is the fact that it comes with an array of standard equipment, with some of its competitors having to pay extra for.

The entry-level Deluxe features a 13.2-inch central infotainment screen, a six-speaker audio system, heated front seats, a panoramic glass sunroof, LED headlights and adaptive cruise control.

Move up to the flagship Luxury, and it boasts an eight-speaker premium Sony audio system, heated rear outer seats, a heated steering wheel, a head-up display and a larger 14.8-inch infotainment screen.

It’s priced from under £30,000

With all that standard equipment, the J7 is one of the most competitively priced cars in this segment.

The entry model comes in at £29,435 and rises to £32,850. The plug-in hybrid variant only comes in the top Luxury trim level, but its price tag only increases to £35,065, making the J7 represent excellent value for money.

It has a practical interior

The J7’s interior is dominated by the large central screen

No matter what model of J7 you go for, its interior offers lots of space and storage for your family.

Up front, the car features a large central bin in the centre console, which is also cooled. There is a spacious glove box, wide front door bins and a couple of cup holders.

Step into the back and the car’s boxy design means that headroom is very generous, and there is lots of legroom, allowing rear occupants to really stretch out.

Boot space stands at 500 litres or 1,335 litres with the rear seats folded, putting it on par with its rivals. If you go for the PHEV version, the space drops to 412 litres, but you still get the same capacious 1,335 litres with the rear bench folded.

Here at UK CarLine we’ve got the Jaecoo J7 available and ready to check out today, so get in touch to find out more.
