Fantasy Football – Our Winners

UK Carline8th June 2021

We would like to thank everyone who has participated in our first annual UK Carline Fantasy Football League. When it comes to fantasy football everyone has their own strategy and tactics. We’ve asked our 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners what was the strategy that made them the best? Here is a little bit about how they won in this season’s league.

1st place – Fraser – Rotherham

“I’m delighted to have won the inaugural Carline fantasy league and will definitely be entering next season’s league. It was my 15th season playing the game and my highest overall finish. The most important strategy this season was to wait as late as possible before making any transfers due to the covid pandemic causing uncertainty over fixtures and players health. Another strategy I found helpful was to get players in as soon as they showed signs of form. Two examples of this were Lingard and Gundogan. My captain’s strategy was to pick a more expensive player with an easier fixture on paper.”

2nd place – Abdul – Dundee

”I am primarily a stat-based manager and have been for a good few years and it’s served me well.  However, I think this season needed more attention than ever with all the Covid cancellations at the start which caused a lot more double and blank Gameweeks than usual. This meant being vigilant and keeping up to date with all the fixture changes was more important than ever and was a big factor in my strong finish this year.

Although I was disappointed to not finish first in the UK Carline League I was more than happy to come to place second. The standard was so high and with over 200 participants it was always going to be tough. I would like to thank UK Carline for setting up this league and offering these fantastic prizes out of their own pocket. It really made the season that extra bit more exciting.”

3rd place – Jack – Bristol

“I’ve been playing Fantasy Football for many years now, so my strategy has been similar for many years. I make sure I have the main 2 or 3 captains in my squad (Bruno, Salah and Kane this year). I like to captain the popular choice and rely on the rest of my squad to make the difference. I take time each week to look at the attacking and defensive stats of each team and then in turn who they are playing this week. Once I’ve found the 2 or 3 fixtures I think look appealing, I would use my transfers to target those teams and look further at which player looks best to bring in. I also listen to a couple of fantasy football podcasts each week and chat about strategies in a Whatsapp group with a few mates.”

So there you have it. Do you think you can do better next season? Why not join in when the new season kicks off in August 2021.
