Jaecoo vs Omoda: What’s the difference?
Two new manufacturers to appear on the scene are Jaecoo and Omoda.
What are they, though, you might be asking? Well, last year, these two Chinese firms joined the British car market, offering a choice of electrified SUVs with ultra-low price tags.
But how do you tell the two apart and what sort of cars do they offer?
We’ve compiled a list of things you need to know about the differences between Jaecoo and Omoda.
Who owns Jaecoo and Omoda?

Believe it or not, but Jaecoo and Omoda are owned by the same car manufacturer, Chery.
Chery is one of China’s largest vehicle manufacturers and owns several Chinese car brands
However, Omoda and Jaecoo were founded in 2023 and unlike a lot of Chinese car companies that have started selling models in the UK, you won’t find any Omoda or Jaecoo badged vehicles in China – but why?
Jaecoo and Omoda were both created by Chery as export brands to help the manufacturing giant with its strategies in other countries.
Who is Jaecoo?

The Jaecoo brand focuses on SUVs with a more premium and luxurious feel.
Jaecoo is a funny name, but it does have a meaning behind it, with it standing for ‘hunter’ in German and the ‘coo’ is an abbreviation for the English word ‘cool’.
It currently sells one model in the UK, which is the 7 SUV. It comes with a choice of petrol or plug-in hybrid powertrains and is built to rival cars like the MG HS and Kia Sportage.
Prices for the 7 start at £29,435 and rise to £35,065 for the plug-in hybrid model.
Who is Omoda?

Omoda is seen as the sportier alternative to Jaecoo, with its focus on coupe-esque SUVs with lower driving positions and even cheaper price tags.
The current Omoda model line up consists of the 5 and E5 SUVs, with the former being petrol-powered and the latter being the electric variant of the car.
Prices start at £25,915 for the petrol 5 and £33,065 for the electric model, making them both represent excellent value for money in the medium SUV segment.
The firm is currently launching its third model, the 9 SUV, which comes with plug-in hybrid power only and features four-wheel drive and a claimed electric-only range of up to 93 miles. It’s set to rival cars such as the Hyundai Santa Fe and Skoda Kodiaq, while prices start at £44,990.
What cars will Jaecoo offer in the future?

Jaecoo is set to launch the 5 SUV, which will sit below the larger 7 in the firm’s range and will be the first electric offering by the brand. It will rival the likes of the Ford Puma Gen-E and Jeep Avenger electric when it goes on sale in August this year. But, you will still be able to get the Jaecoo 5 with a pure petrol engine too, making prices more affordable.
There are also talks of a Jaecoo 6 coming to the UK, which features a rather funky exterior design that has a similar look taken from the Suzuki Jimny. It will feature an electric powertrain that will manage a claimed 300 miles on a single charge as well as four-wheel drive. However, it’s still unclear whether this model will make it to the UK market at this stage.
What cars will Omoda offer in the future?

With the firm currently launching its 9 SUV, there is the Omoda 7 SUV, which is set to launch here in September of this year.
The 7 will also come with a plug-in hybrid powertrain featuring a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine mated to an electric motor and battery pack that the firm claims will manage to travel up to 56 miles on battery power.
