TESLA – expanding its supercharger access to all.

UK Carline19th May 2022

It was announced this week that Tesla is setting up to allow a select number of superchargers to be accessed by other EV makers across the UK. Before now only TESLA vehicles could access their supercharger devices, this is in a bid to help the UK move to EV driving.

EVs like the SEAT Mii, VW ID.5 and POLESTAR can now access these select chargers at a cost of 60+ per kWh, there will be a monthly membership available that will be promised lower costs at £10.00 for those using the sites on a more regular basis.

But just like TESLA vehicles, if idle and overstaying your charging welcome you will be charged for this.

What is so special about the Superchargers?

The large appeal TESLA has is its ability to rapid charge within 15 minutes rather than the average 20-30 minutes. Their technology allows the charge to bypass the onboard charger that converts AC current to DC current to just straight to the DC to power the battery directly. Taking out a large chunk of time to charge out of the equation.

Where can I find these Superchargers?

Remember not all supercharger stations are open to all non-TESLA EVs, currently, only 15 sites will be available to non-TESLA vehicles. These are –  Aberystwyth, Adderstone, Aviemore, Banbury, Birmingham St Andrews, Cardiff, Dundee, Flint, Folkestone Eurotunnel, Grays, Manchester Trafford Centre, Thetford, Trumpington, Uxbridge and Wokingham.
To find the nearest supercharger near you apps like ZapMap, PodPoint, Polestar Plugsuring and the TESLA will help you plan your journey safely with zero range anxiety.
