Top five features on the BYD Sealion 7

Jack Evans28th November 2025

BYD is the Chinese brand to look out for. After nearly three years of selling cars in the UK, the firm is one of the most popular brands of the moment.

The Sealion 7 is the company’s flagship model and rivals the likes of the Tesla Model Y and Kia EV6.

It’s only available with electric power and focuses on offering space, value and comfort to make it a great all-round electric family car.

If that sounds like a good deal, what else does this Chinese SUV have to offer? Here are the top five features on BYD’s Sealion 7 to make it a worthy contender in the SUV market.

There is a choice of powertrain setups

The Sealion 7 is available with a choice of two battery packs. The first is an 82.5kWh unit that comes as standard on the entry-level car and mid-range variant.

This setup features a single electric motor fitted to the rear axle to make rear-wheel drive, 308bhp and 380Nm of torque. BYD claims the car can travel up to 300 miles on a single charge, too.

The mid-range car comes with the same battery pack, but there is the addition of another electric motor to make all-wheel drive. This boosts power up to 523bhp and 690Nm of torque, while it has a claimed range of 283 miles between trips to the plug.

The top-of-the-range model also benefits from an all-wheel drive layout, though its battery capacity increases to 91.3kWh, which develops the same 523bhp and 690Nm of torque figures, and can travel a claimed distance of 312 miles on a single charge.

It comes with loads of standard equipment

Like all BYDs, the Sealion 7 is packed with technology

No matter which model of Sealion 7 you go for, you’re not going to be complaining about standard equipment.

Even the entry-level Comfort model gets LED headlights, a panoramic glass sunroof, vegan leather seats, electrically adjustable, heated and ventilated front seats and dual-zone climate control.

The mid-level Design car features 20-inch alloy wheels and the all-wheel drive setup, while flagship Excellence models come with the larger battery pack, leather upholstery and a head-up display.

It’s practical

The Sealion 7 offers a very usable amount of boot space

If you buy an SUV, one of your main priorities is space and practicality, and thankfully, the Sealion 7 doesn’t disappoint here.

Inside, there are lots of cubby holes such as a deep storage area under the centre armrest, a large tray under the centre console, two wireless phone chargers, huge door bins and a decent-sized glovebox.

In the back, there is loads of kneeroom for occupants, while headroom isn’t too bad either, despite the standard glass panoramic sunroof.

In the boot, there is a total of 520 litres of space, and that space more than triples when you fold the rear seats down to make 1,789 litres. In comparison, a Kia EV6 only offers 490 litres and 1,300 litres of space with the rear seats folded down.

The Sealion 7 also comes with a handy 58-litre frunk, which is ideal for stowing away the charging cables.

It can be charged up in no time at all

When it comes to charging, the Sealion 7 can be topped up in no time at all.

This makes it much easier to live with on a day-to-day basis and shouldn’t cause any range anxiety.

If you go for the smaller battery option, then the Comfort rear-wheel drive and Design all-wheel drive models can be charged at speeds of up to 150kW from a DC rapid-charger, with a 10 to 80 per cent top-up taking around 32 minutes.

The Excellence all-wheel drive model with the larger battery is compatible with 230kW DC charging, which enables a 10 to 80 per cent charge to be completed in just 24 minutes.

It features ‘cell-to-body’ technology

Like all BYDs, the Sealion 7 is packed with technology

The Sealion 7 comes with something called ‘cell-to-body’ technology, which is all to do with its battery.

Cell-to-body technology is where the battery pack is directly integrated into the chassis of the vehicle. This allows for the car’s structure to be stronger and more rigid, while it makes the setup more efficient and allows for greater interior space inside the car.
