Top things to know about the Renault 5
Renault’s new 5 electric supermini is one of the most eagerly anticipated cars of the moment.
With its retro design, electric powertrain and low price tag, could this be the EV we’ve all been waiting for?
If you’re thinking about buying one of these fun and funky little cars, we’ve compiled a list of the top things you need to know about the new Renault 5.
There is a choice of two battery packs

Renault is offering the R5 with a choice of two battery packs.
There is a smaller 40kWh unit and electric motor that can deliver a claimed range of up to 186 miles on a single charge.
Or, there is a larger 52kWh unit with an electric motor that achieves a claimed 252 miles between trips to the plug.
All versions are compatible with DC rapid charging and can be topped up at speeds of 100kW, allowing for a 15 to 80 per cent charge to take 30 mins for the 52kWh or 31 mins for the smaller 40kWh.
There are three trim levels

Car manufacturers are taking the simplistic route when it comes to trim levels, and the R5 is no different.
There are just three trim levels consisting of Evolution, Techno and Iconic Five.
The entry-level car comes with a 10.1-inch infotainment screen, 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and grey with black cloth upholstery.
Move up to the Techno and you get extras such as recycled denim seat upholstery, an illuminated ‘5’ charging indicator on the bonnet and interior ambient lighting.
The flagship Iconic Five comes with extras such as heated front seats and steering wheel, 18-inch ‘Chrono’ black diamond-cut alloy wheels and grey with yellow sustainable seat upholstery.
It features lots of sustainable materials

To help reduce emissions through the manufacturing process, the R5 features lots of sustainable materials throughout its cabin.
For example, the instrument panel is made from something called NAFIlean-R, which is recycled polypropylene made from post-consumer waste.
The seat upholstery, synthetic leather on the steering wheel and the car’s sound insulation are also made from sustainable materials.
It’s one of the cheapest EVs on sale today

The dawn of the affordable electric car is rising and Renault has made sure that prices remain low for the R5.
Prices start at just £22,995 for the entry-level Evolution model and rise to £26,995 for the flagship Iconic Five.
In terms of rivals, you might want to check out the Mini Cooper or Peugeot e-208.
A limited Roland Garros edition is on offer for now

Renault is also offering the R5 in a special edition guise called the Roland Garros.
The model pays tribute to the famous world of tennis and the Roland-Garros tournament, often referred to as the French Open.
The exterior features 18-inch ‘Electro’ alloy wheels with grey centre caps and Roland Garros logos on the front doors – while a choice of four exterior paint colours are on offer, too.
Inside, the sustainable theme continues with the seat upholstery made from recycled sports clothing and the side seat bolsters and armrests are finished off in a blue material.
Also, there are some neat design cues, with the gear shift lever shaped like a tennis racket, an orange coloured smartphone charger with matching floor mats, as well as Roland Garros logoed door sills.
The Roland Garros edition will come as standard with the larger 52kWh battery pack and electric motor, while prices increase to £29,995.
This model will be limited in production numbers, but Renault has not revealed how many it will be producing at this stage.
