Fleet Van announces 2011 winners

Motorists and businesses who rely on their vans for work purposes could switch to models designed by Volkswagen as the manufacturer has recently won three top awards from industry expert Fleet Van.

Van leasing customers will find it particularly easy and less complicated to change their vehicles.

The Volkswagen Transporter was awarded both the Medium Panel Van of the Year as well as Fleet Van of the Year, and the editor of the magazine Trevor Gelken said the vehicle was far superior to every other model in the category.

“Such is the legendary might of this van, which dates back to the 1950s, that it wins the Medium Van of the Year award again – as it has done every year since our awards began,” he added.

The German manufacturer’s Caddy van took the prize for Small Van of the Year and Mr Gelken stated the van’s new additions were enough to move it up from last year’s position of second place.

He explained that the new engines Volkswagen has fitted to the Caddy had improved the range of the van beyond that of its competitors.

Speaking about the awards, Alastair Hemmings, national fleet manager at the automobile firm, said: “I’m sure these will prove to even more fleet managers that Volkswagen’s efficient and desirable range of commercial vehicles make very good sense for every business.”

Those van leasing customers who need a vehicle which is more specialised could be interested in the Mitsubishi L200.

The Japanese vehicle took the title of Fleet Van Pick-up of the Year, with the judges praising the range of horsepower and load bed options available to drivers.

Lance Bradley, managing director of the UK division of Mitsubishi Motors, stated he was delighted with the award and said the L200 is now a clear favourite for commercial vehicle users.
