Japanese car giant Nissan has made a large contribution to the Usain Bolt Foundation after successfully auctioning off a raft of memorabilia from the well-loved Jamaican sprinter.
In total, the manufacturer raised $193,191 (£119.331) for good causes after putting a number of items associated with the Olympic icon under the hammer in a unique online charity auction on eBay.
Between November 22nd and December 4th 2012, a large number of offers were tabled for a number of rare and eye-catching items.
Without a shadow of a doubt, the standout auction piece was a one-off gold-coloured Nissan GT-R, which sold for a staggering $187,100.
The unique supercar caught the eye for the fact that the vehicle’s interior fittings were finished in real gold and adorned with Bolt’s embossed signature. A shiny gold exterior paintjob also helped the car stand out.
Upon winning the auction for the innovative GT-R, the unnamed new owner of the supercar stated: “The Nissan GT-R just gets better and better and more refined each year, and the fact that this gold GT-R also celebrates the incredible achievements of the great Usain Bolt makes it something very special indeed.”
Away from the one-off GT-R, more than 100 people challenged for nine pieces of merchandise from Bolt, including special driving suits, racing helmets and motoring boots. Their items raised a grand total of $6,091.
All proceeds will now be donated to the Usain Bolt Foundation, a charity set up with an aim of establishing educational and cultural opportunities for children and young individuals living in Jamaica.
Bolt himself commented: “My partnership with Nissan greatly benefits the work of my Foundation. This donation will help many kids get access to better facilities, play areas and educational materials in Jamaica. I am delighted to be working with Nissan to do this.”
Drivers impressed by Nissan’s charitable efforts have the chance to experience the Japanese car maker’s vehicle manufacturing excellence by seeking a great car leasing offer on the Nissan Qashqai 1.6 Visia five-door Hatchback.
For just £174.99, motorists are treated to a marvellous vehicle that can hit 0-62mph in just 11.9 seconds and return 45.6mpg on a combined cycle.
