Details have been announced for Vauxhall’s forthcoming vehicle, Cascada, which will go on sale from April.
It is designed to challenge similar cars in the drop-top sector, with officials claiming that it offers a good level of affordability, thanks to its price tag of £23,995, as well as extensive luxury.
Those who opt for the Cascada will have the choice of two trims, as the entry level SE comes with 18″ alloy wheels, a sports chassis, LED tail lamps and an aux-in/USB audio setup as standard.
Alternatively, drivers can choose the impressive Elite package, which includes leather trim, heated front seats and steering wheel and front fog lamps.
The range of choice extends to underneath the hood too, with a great deal of options in terms of engine size and capability.
At the lower end, there is a 1.4-litre Turbo petrol engine, with manual gearbox, which can achieve a decent 44.8mpg ratio.
Moving up, people who opt for the two-litre diesel engine, with manual or automatic transmissions, can enjoy 54.3mpg.
At the very top stands the 1.6 SIDI Turbo ECOTEC, which is a real source of pride for Vauxhall, offering 170PS from 1650-3200rpm, as well as up to 280Nm of torque.
Duncan Aldred, Vauxhall’s chairman and managing director, said the Cascada represents an all-round great vehicle for drivers.
“The all-new Cascada is an outstanding full-size, four seat convertible with premium qualities and technologies at an affordable, mainstream price,” he said.
“It’s an exciting time for Vauxhall with Cascada launching the brand in to its fourth new sector in a year, following Ampera, Mokka and ADAM.”
It also comes with Vauxhall’s HiPerStrut front suspension system, which cleverly separates damping and steering functions to reduce torque steer.
The car is likely to appeal to those who have had the pleasure of driving the Vauxhall Insignia Diesel Saloon before.
This is currently available on a business contract hire agreement for £197.80 a month, excluding VAT.
