Renault UK helped thousands of people ‘walk all over cancer’ in London last weekend (Saturday September 28th), by supporting Cancer Research UK’s Shine event, once again.
It was the second consecutive year that the car manufacturer offered to help the charity’s nighttime walking marathon. Participants are encouraged to brighten up the city by wearing colourful clothes and accessories to raise awareness and money for the well-deserved cause.
Renault did its bit by putting together a fleet of luxury and practical vehicles to help transport race volunteers across the capital. The car manufacturer supplied Grand Scenics, Trafic vans and four minibuses to assist the hard-working people as they made their way across London to Battersea Power Station, where the race finished.
Volunteers were important to ensure that everyone was kept safe across the 26-mile route and make sure that anyone who had to drop out had a way to get home. The walk features many of London’s iconic buildings as it takes walkers past the Houses of Parliament, Tower Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral.
Gemma Davies, marketing and partnership manager for Cancer Research UK, said: “Renault well and truly stepped up to the mark by supporting Shine this year. We’ve had a bumper year and over 16,000 people signed up to ‘walk all over cancer’ – our strap line for 2013.
“Renault’s continued support allowed us to make sure that our volunteers were safely driven out onto the course and returned back safely after their long nightshifts. We want to thank them so much for everything that they have done for us and we look forward to working with them again in 2014.”
Peter Horton, Renault UK area manager, said the company was “delighted” to help the charity in “a worthwhile and challenging event”.
“Money raised will benefit the efforts of Cancer Research UK and, crucially, have a positive impact on the lives of those affected by cancer.
“We are proud to help out where we can at Shine 2013 and play a small part in helping the fantastic charity take a step closer to beating cancer once and for all.”
