Volkswagen’s new ID.Polo: Say hello to the new compact EV

UK Carline5th June 2026

The new ID.Polo kickstarts a new wave of EVs for Volkswagen, but what can it offer and will it fit the bill for you?

The new Volkswagen ID.Polo has been revealed, showcasing a brand new age for this German brand. Compact, lightweight and aimed at getting people on the road for less, the ID.Polo definitely has that ‘people’s car’ ethos, which could help it to appeal to the masses.

At UK Carline, we’re always across the very latest EVs, which is why we’ve got all of the details you need to know about the new ID.Polo. Let’s take a look.

The ID.Polo – what is it?

The new ID.Polo forms part of a wider offensive by Volkswagen Group. It’s why, underneath, it uses the same MEB+ platform that is being shared with the CUPRA Raval and Skoda Epiq. Essentially, this new platform ensures that these cars can offer loads of space but in a package which is still relatively compact.

It’s an evolution of the MEB platform which has already been put to good use in cars like the Volkswagen ID.3, Skoda Enyaq and CUPRA Born.

What kind of range will it offer?

With this clever MEB+ platform, the ID.Polo is set to feature a 37kWh battery linked to an electric motor, which will be offered with either 114bhp or 133bhp. Volkswagen says this setup delivers up to 204 miles of range, while DC rapid charging can take the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in around 23 minutes. Expect a full charge from a standard 7kW home charger to be completed overnight.

Remember, Volkswagen has already announced an ID. Polo GTI model which we expect to offer more horsepower and the possibility of a dual-motor setup.

When will it hit the roads in the UK?

It’s expected that the Volkswagen ID.Polo will go on sale later this year. The brand has yet to confirm pricing for the new EV, but since it has already gone on sale in Germany, we’ve got a good idea of what it’ll cost when it reaches these shores.

If converted directly from German pricing, it’ll start at the equivalent of £29,280, while a cheaper model priced at £21,650 will be launched later on.

How about technology – is there plenty of it?

Not only has Volkswagen equipped the ID.Polo with plenty of tech, but it has also listened to feedback from customers. It’s why this car has ditched the screen-only setup found on previous VW EVs in favour of a greater use of physical buttons. There’s a row of controls beneath the screen, for instance, while a large volume knob gives you instant control over sound.

Alongside these, you’ll find a 13.1-inch infotainment screen and a 10.1-inch digital dashboard. You can even configure the digital dash to show ‘retro’ dials like the ones fitted to the original Golf.

But I need space – does the ID.Polo have a lot of room?

This is the best bit of that MEB+ platform – space. It means you get a 441-litre boot, which is considerably larger than the 351-litre boot that you’d get from a standard petrol Polo. You can flip the rear seats flat to expand this area to 1,240 litres, too, which is a huge 115-litre lift over the standard car.

There’s plenty of storage for odds and ends, too, with large cupholders in the centre of the front row being a particularly welcome feature.

Will there be a GTI version?

Absolutely! Volkswagen has just announced that the famous GTI badge will be worn for the first time on an electric car with the ID.Polo GTI. It’ll get a host of performance-focused revisions, including a proper limited-slip differential and a boost in power.

There are loads of trademark GTI design touches, too, such as the familiar red stripe in the front grille and tartan cloth inside.

I can’t wait for the ID.Polo – what are my current options?

Can’t hang around for the Volkswagen ID.Polo to arrive? Don’t worry – we’ve got you sorted here at UK Carline. You could take a look at the Volkswagen ID.3, or even the CUPRA Born, both of which offer a good amount of range and lots of technology.

There are also plenty of options from rival manufacturers. The Kia EV3 continues to impress, while you could consider something like the Jaecoo 5 as an alternative.

Whatever you fancy, we’ll be able to find a car and a price which works for you here at UK Carline. Take a look through our range today or get in touch to find out more.
