The UK is currently preparing to receive the deliveries of the world’s first plug-in diesel hybrid – the Volvo V60 D6 AWD. To make the adoption smoother for people across the country, the innovative car manufacturer has teamed up with British Gas to help ensure customers’ vehicles are ready for the transition.
As part of the partnership, customers who want to buy the new model will also get a free car charging package from the utility firm until March 2015. This includes a charge point and free access to the Polar Charging units which has a network across the UK.
Volvo has recently updated its V60 model, which has included a complete redesign of the front of the car, with a brand new bumper that incorporates day-running lights and grille.
Another new addition to the to the Volvo V60 is the re-profiled bonnet, which conceals washer jets, front wings and headlights. The company allows customers to further customise what they want included on their individual model, which includes being able to select the shade they want from a large range of colours to craft their ideal vehicle.
The V60 D6 AWD allows the driver to select their preferred driving mode through three buttons which are helpfully positioned on the dashboard. This customisation tool gives the car three completely different specifications; Pure, Hybrid and Power.
If drivers leave the vehicle in its default hybrid mode, it offers carbon dioxide emissions of just 48g/km but by simply touching one button, the model will switch to full electric mode, giving the motorist up to 31 miles. By using the combined capacity of the diesel engine and electric motor, drivers are able to get behind the wheel of a versatile model which offers them 215+70 horsepower and 440+200 Nm of torque.
The demand has been so high in the UK, that production has needed to double from the initial plan of just 150.
Iain Howat, head of product and pricing at Volvo Car UK, said: “With the car offering low CO2 emissions coupled with a high power output, the new exterior design and Volvo’s usual safety standards, plus this new fantastic offer from British Gas, we have great confidence in this vehicle as a complete package.”
