AION: The UK’s latest China-made brand to hit the scene
AION is one of several new Chinese car makers to arrive in the UK, but what does it do and what can you expect from it?

Two electric cars, competitive range and an eight-year ownership package. Here’s what you need to know about one of the UK’s newest car brands.
You might have noticed that a fair few new brands have arrived in the UK recently. Many of them can be found here at UK Carline, including Jaecoo, Chery and Omoda. They have attracted plenty of attention with generous equipment levels and a choice of electrified powertrains.
There is a new kid on the block, though – AION. It is another Chinese brand looking to make a name for itself in the UK, but what is it and what kind of cars does it sell? Let’s take a look.
The story so far
AION – where did it start?
AION is a brand created by Chinese carmaker GAC. It focuses on electric and other ‘new energy’ vehicles, giving the wider manufacturing group a dedicated home for its electrified models.
The brand was founded in 2017, but it was 2026 when it first launched in the UK. Its first UK model was the AION V electric SUV, which has now been joined by the smaller UT.
The electric SUV
AION V: a new name for the family shortlist
The first model is the AION V. It is a C-segment electric SUV, positioning it as an alternative to cars such as the Skoda Elroq, Leapmotor C10 and Kia EV5.

The V pairs its 75.3kWh battery with a single 201bhp electric motor. It also supports DC rapid charging at up to 180kW, with AION quoting a 10–80% charge in 24 minutes, or 30–80% in 18 minutes, under suitable conditions.

Big on everyday equipment
The V comes with plenty of equipment as standard, including a 14.6-inch infotainment screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8.9-inch driver’s display and a 360-degree parking camera.
It is a well-equipped starting point for drivers considering their next electric family car.
The compact electric alternative
AION UT: smaller car, plenty to offer
AION has also launched the UT, an electric supermini that gives drivers considering smaller electric cars, such as the Renault 4 or Citroen e-C3, another option.
Like the V, it is fully electric. Its 60kWh battery brings a manufacturer-quoted WLTP combined range of up to 268 miles, giving it scope for more than just short trips around town.

AION says it has specifically tuned the UT for UK buyers, with revisions to the springs and dampers. It also gets a revised anti-roll bar as part of the work to tailor its handling and ride to British roads.

There is plenty of equipment here, too, including a 14.6-inch infotainment screen, a heated steering wheel and a 360-degree parking camera.
Starting from £28,950 on the road, the UT is the smaller, lower-priced model in AION’s UK line-up.

What is the AION ‘Great 8’ package?
One of AION’s headline features is its Great 8 Promise. It brings together warranty cover, routine servicing, roadside assistance and MOT tests, with separate limits and conditions for each benefit.
Vehicle warranty
8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Coverage, exclusions and shorter limits for certain components apply.
Routine servicing
8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, following AION’s service schedule. Additional maintenance and wear-and-tear items are not generally included.
Roadside assistance
8 years of support from first registration, provided through AION’s roadside assistance partner, subject to the service terms.
MOT tests
Up to 6 MOT test fees, covering years 3 to 8. Repairs, replacement parts and additional testing are not included.
The high-voltage battery has a separate 8-year/125,000-mile warranty, whichever comes first, with a 70% state-of-health threshold. Eligibility, maintenance requirements and exclusions apply.
The package is linked to the car rather than the owner, so subsequent owners can benefit from the remaining eligible cover. That is an appealing point for drivers looking beyond the first few years of ownership.
