The UN Decade of Action on road safety gives car leasing customers the chance to show their commitment to driver- and pedestrian-friendly motoring.
Already the initiative – which aims to introduce a yellow diamond-shaped metal tag as a symbol of road safety, similar to the red ribbon used for Aids awareness – has met with support in the UK.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents says: “The Decade provides a framework to countries and communities to increase action to save lives on the world’s roads.”
Companies that opt for car leasing in order to ensure their fleet incorporates the latest safety features may want to highlight that fact through participation in the Decade, due to last from 2011-20.
The initiative’s website reveals that public support is being used to raise funds for motoring schemes in less developed countries, such as providing safety helmets to children who must travel as motorcycle pillion passengers due to the lack of a family car.
