Six models have been chosen to go through to the next round of the 2011 World Green Car competition.
Among the vehicles selected for the prestigious environmental award are the BMW 320d Efficient Dynamics Edition, the Nissan LEAF and the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid.
The Chevrolet Volt, Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-Cell and smart electric drive were the other cars chosen in the line-up.
Car leasing customers may be interested in any one of these vehicles if they are looking for a way in which to reduce their carbon emissions.
Three experts in environmentally-friendly automotive technology compiled a shortlist, which was then presented to the 66-strong judging panel to vote for the six finalists.
Emissions, fuel consumption and the environmental responsibility of the vehicles were all taken into account in the judging process.
Previous winners of the award have included the Volkswagen BlueMotion and the Honda FCX Clarity.
Meanwhile, the Nissan LEAF – one of the nominees in this year’s shortlist – picked up the 2011 European Car of the Year in November, making it the first electric vehicle to be presented with the title.
