Isn’t it pretty…
Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet: A Proper Grown-Up Car for Grown-Ups
The Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet is two cars for the price of one: a sleek and refined cabrio, and a grown-up, do-everything hatchback. It’s quiet, even with the roof down; handles extremely well; and the model we have on offer is highly economical to run.
The 103bhp 1.6 diesel engine is a sure winner for high mileage drivers: 64.2mpg is impressive. Really really impressive. And we can’t complain about the (tax free) 117g/km of CO2 emissions either.
Naturally, removing the hard roof of a car affects the body. This shows if you send the Cabriolet into sharp bumps, but the handling still remains feeling sleek, refined and fun.
The roof is fabric rather than metal, but that isn’t in any way a bad thing. With the lid up there’s a tiny bit of noise when you really go for it, but otherwise it’s as quiet as a regular Golf Hatchback. With the roof down the wind is only in your face if you’re particularly tall, otherwise the cabin feels remarkably isolated. Volkswagen are also proud to tell you that the roof folds away in 9.5 seconds.
Some (most) convertibles sacrifice boot space to accommodate the roof. The Golf Cabriolet sacrifices nothing: 250 litres of boot space with the roof up or down, and the rear seats both fold down if you need that little bit more space.
The Cabriolet’s interior is a straight up clone of the smart and durable build of other Golfs, so regular VW fans will feel right at home straight away: if it ain’t broke…
